| The downtown West Palm Beach area was originally built for Henry Flagler's "help" back in the late 1800s and early 1900s when he was developing Palm Beach as a posh resort area.
As with any city or urban area, it has seen ups and downs. As recently as the year 2000, residents in the area would not think to visit downtown for reasons other than work (it is the governmental hub of Palm Beach County).
Then CityPlace was built... and everything changed.
Now, people from all over flock to downtown West Palm Beach. Many new residential buildings are in various stages of development, and government buildings are being revamped.
Why is downtown West Palm Beach becoming so popular? Many reasons: It is a tight cluster of dining, shopping, and entertainment. The beautiful beaches are minutes away by bike. Palm Beach, with famous Worth Avenue, is just over the bridge. Beautiful Flagler Drive, winding along the Intracoastal, is ideal for strolling, jogging, or walking your dog. The airport is extremely convenient.
